About the event
Prof Dr Martin Korte: Fresh in Mind – Finding Our Way Out of Digital Overload
How do we learn – and why is forgetting not a weakness, but a central function of our memory? Prof Dr Martin Korte explains the neurobiological foundations of learning, remembering and forgetting. He also explores the conditions under which digital tools and AI can support learning processes – and when they are more likely to impair attention and memory.
The lecture focuses on attention, distraction and information overload, as well as the widespread misconception of multitasking. It connects the perspectives of younger and older learners in a way that is scientifically grounded and accessible to a general audience.
With a wink: on this evening, we will also be looking after the “mental mobility” of our club members. After all, mobility does not only mean being on the move – it also means navigating clearly in your own mind. Which “lane” deserves your attention? Which “pit stops” strengthen your memory? And when is AI truly a useful assistance system?
Prof Dr Martin Korte is Professor of Cellular Neurobiology at Technische Universität Braunschweig and heads the Zoological Institute. At the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, he leads the “Neuroinflammation and Neurodegeneration” research group. He is the author of the book Jung im Kopf: Erstaunliche Einsichten der Gehirnforschung in das Älterwerden.
Admission to the lecture is €10. FörderFreunde enjoy free admission. Spontaneous guests are welcome, but unfortunately a guaranteed seat cannot be offered without prior booking.
