About the event

Helmut Heusler – Climate-Friendly Mobility: Is Electric Drive the Only Option?

Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Heusler offers insights into the drive technologies of the future and shows what contribution electric drives, fuel cells, e-fuels and other technologies can make to reducing CO₂ emissions.

In the current debate, the electric car often appears to be the only plausible solution to the CO2 challenge in the transport sector. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly clear that electric drive systems present particular challenges for affordable small and compact cars with a practical range. This makes it all the more important to remain open to different technologies and to support alternatives to purely electric drive systems that can be made available quickly.

However, the discussion should not focus on drive technology alone. A holistic view must also take primary energy into account. In addition, vehicle concepts optimised for low driving resistance can make a decisive contribution to reducing the energy demand of vehicles.

In his lecture, Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Heusler, a developer with more than 35 years of experience in the automotive industry, presents various drive technologies and compares their advantages and disadvantages. Heusler has worked as a responsible developer on both conventional and alternative drive systems, including petrol and diesel engines, electric drives, fuel cells and hybrid technologies. This practical experience enables him to present the strengths and weaknesses of the different drive systems in a well-founded way. He also explains the importance of vehicle concepts optimised for low driving resistance and their influence on energy consumption.

As a specialist author and lecturer at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Heusler knows how to explain complex physical relationships in an understandable way. He shows which drive technologies can be the most suitable choice under different conditions. His lecture provides a comprehensive overview of the available solutions and highlights which alternative drive systems and primary energy sources can make the fastest and most efficient contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions.

With his many years of experience and practical perspective on the future of mobility, Heusler offers valuable insights for everyone interested in upcoming developments in mobility and the choices that lie ahead.

Admission to the lecture is €10. Reduced admission for school pupils is €5. FörderFreunde enjoy free admission. Spontaneous guests are welcome, but unfortunately a guaranteed seat cannot be offered without prior booking.
