About the event

AsEvening program for Biker Day The curator of the  PS.SPEICHER, Andy Schwietzer, presents their new BMW Boxer book together with his co-author, Bernd Albert. Since the advent of motorcycles, adventurous men and women have loved to quickly traverse difficult terrain with their machines. What began in 1913 with the six-day races is still reflected today in the Dakar Rally. BMW motorcycles have played a major role in the off-road sector for decades and for more than 40 years it has been hard to imagine the BMW motorcycle range without GS models. It is noteworthy that this series was only developed for rally racing, although BMW's off-road history is much older than the GS range. BMW has developed the ability to compete off-road over decades and crowned this with great success at the Dakar Rally.

In this photo presentation, Andy Schwietzer and Bernd Albert go into detail about BMW's off-road racing and rally history. They also invited contemporary witnesses, BMW champions at the time and the developers of the winning boxers. The highlight of the evening is a selection of iconic six-day and Paris-Dakar winning machines on the stage of the PS.Halle. After the event, the book presented can of course be purchased and signed by the authors. Andy Schwietzer was born in Göttingen in 1962. After graduating from high school, he studied law and social sciences at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. In 1988 he wrote his diploma thesis at the journalism seminar in Göttingen on the topic: "Conceptual changes in the magazine 'Das Motorrad' in the last three decades".

He currently writes regularly for the "Oldtimer Markt" and occasionally for the magazines "BMW Motorrad", "Motorrad", "Motorrad News" and "Auto & Reise". He has also published around two dozen books about German motorcycle construction in third-party publishers and in his own, Bodensteiner Verlag.

Admission to the lecture is ten euros, supporters have free access, spontaneous guests are of course welcome, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee a place.
