AutoCult has been producing models made from synthetic resin, commonly known simply as resin, since 1995, with each model limited to an edition of 333 pieces. Resin makes even small production runs economically viable because the required silicone moulds are relatively inexpensive. With mass-production methods such as die-casting, the moulds are far more costly and only become economical at high production volumes.

One drawback of resin is its fragility. If a resin model falls to the floor, it can shatter into many pieces and is difficult to repair. Resin models are therefore designed as collectors’ items for display rather than as toys.
