7,000 kilometers in a bush taxi, less often in a bus or on a donkey cart. A journey through countries at the bottom of the international prosperity table. A literary road movie that portrays the harsh reality of life in the region unvarnished, but always with a pinch of humor.

About the event

Does it take a passion for the apocalypse to travel to West Africa? That's what Thomas Bering asks in his book "In the Shadow - With the Bush Taxi through West Africa", because in this region the reality is often more exciting than any crime story. He usually covers 7,000 kilometers in a bush taxi, rarely in a bus or on a donkey cart. A journey through countries on the bottom ranks of the international prosperity table.  His book is a literary road movie that describes the harsh reality of life in the region unvarnished, but always with a pinch of humor.

In a photo lecture he reports on obscure despots, drug deals, the madness of development cooperation, hotel ruins and out-of-place oyster bars. And it describes the enormous attraction that the fascinating continent develops.

Thomas Bering was born in Hofgeismar in 1965. He spent a large part of his life in northern Hesse - when he wasn't traveling.  For as long as he can remember, he has been plagued by the nomad gene and has wanted to be out and about - on remote trekking trails or even in lively metropolises. Preferably, however, in the bizarre regions of our planet, where the peculiarities of the corporate identity of large corporations have not yet been leveled out.

Admission to the lecture is ten euros,  FörderFreunde have free access, spontaneous guests are of course  welcome, unfortunately a place cannot be guaranteed.
