FörderFreunde lecture: Birte Krüger: BMW Isetta - A traditional company in crisis, the emergence of marketing

This evening lecture is about a small but no less exciting automobile: the BMW Isetta. It was built by the Munich car manufacturer from 1955 to 1962 - and during this time it represented what one would probably call “hype” today.

About the event

This evening lecture is about a small but no less exciting automobile:The BMW Isetta. It was built by the Munich car manufacturer from 1955 to 1962 - and during this time it represented what one would probably call “hype” today. Birte Krüger dealt with exactly this hype for her bachelor's thesis and, after extensive research in the BMW archive, can provide insights into the history of the company. Why did BMW decide to include the unusual Isetta in its product range? What product image did BMW want to convey to customers about the Isetta?

How did “marketing” even work in the 1950s? The lecture will address these and many other questions. Original advertising photos from the BMW archives will also be shown. Not only do you get to know the Isetta and BMW better, but you also get to see what Germany looked like in the 1950s.

Birte Krueger completed her high school diploma in Hanover in 2018 and studied at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf from 2019. In addition to her studies, she worked in various positions at the University of Düsseldorf, including in the economic history department. In March 2023 she received a Bachelor of Arts degree with an overall grade of 1.2 for her historical thesis on the BMW Isetta.

Admission to the lecture is ten euros, supporters have free access,

Entry costs €10; Supporting friends have free access. Tickets are availablehere, at PS.SPEICHER or at the box office. Spontaneous guests are of course welcome, but unfortunately we cannot guarantee a place.
